(TORONTO, ON) November 18, 2024 – CFA Society Toronto and CFA Society Ottawa are pleased to announce that BRP Inc. (TSX: DOO) has been selected as the company to be researched and analyzed in the local CFA Institute Research Challenge. BRP is a global leader in the world of powersports products, propulsion systems, and boats, built on over 80 years of ingenuity and intensive consumer focus. With a portfolio of industry-leading brands, including Ski-Doo and Lynx snowmobiles, Sea-Doo watercraft and pontoons, Can-Am on and off-road vehicles, and Rotax engines, BRP unlocks exhilarating adventures and provides access to experiences across diverse playgrounds.
"We are excited to collaborate with BRP for this year's CFA Institute Research Challenge," Fred Pinto, CFA, ICD.D, CEO of CFA Society Toronto. "The annual Research Challenge provides an exceptional learning opportunity for the participating students. This experience will allow them to apply their classroom knowledge to a real-world company, enhancing their analytical and valuation skills. We are committed to fostering the next generation of investment professionals, and partnering with a dynamic company like BRP enriches this educational journey."
This year, 14 Ontario university student teams will compete in the Toronto-Ottawa local competition of the CFA Institute Annual Research Challenge. These student teams will prepare equity research reports on this prominent Canadian company. The reports will be reviewed and scored by a panel of investment industry professionals. Based on the scores from the written reports, the top four teams will advance to the local finals on February 12, 2025.
“We are pleased to be selected as the subject company for this year’s CFA Institute Annual Research Challenge,” said Sébastien Martel, CFO of BRP. “We are grateful for this opportunity to engage with and help develop the next generation of investment professionals, and we believe that BRP, with its rich history of driving growth and innovation, will represent an excellent subject for the competition.”
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Students work in teams to research and analyze a publicly traded company and write a comprehensive research report with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation.
There are four stages teams must successfully navigate to be crowned winners of the CFA Institute Research Challenge: local, sub-regional, regional, and global levels. At each stage, teams present and defend their analysis to panels of industry professionals. Students gain invaluable experience from seasoned experts and peers from the world’s top business schools.
CFA Society Toronto's local competition has a history of excellence. In the 2024 global final held in Warsaw, Poland, a student team from the University of Waterloo (the winners of the local Toronto challenge) was named Global Champions of the CFA Institute Research Challenge. Competing against teams from around the world, the University of Waterloo team demonstrated outstanding analytical and presentation skills, bringing international recognition to Canadian talent.
“The success of the University of Waterloo team on the global stage showcases the exceptional caliber of students participating in our local competition,” added Stephanie Poon, CFA, Chair of the CFA Society Toronto Awards & University Relations Committee. “Their achievement is an inspiration to this year’s participants and underscores the valuable experience the Research Challenge provides.”
