We are pleased to announce Vadim Gracie, FCSI, CFA has been appointed the Chair of the Society’s Board of Directors following the 28 June 2018 Election Meeting.
The Board of Directors provides the Society with strategic leadership to carry out its mission and vision by adopting a socially responsible role in the enhancement of the investment profession.
“It is a distinct pleasure to be elected the 2018-2019 Chair of CFA Society Toronto,” said Vadim Gracie, FCSI, CFA. “In the coming year, with the support of our dedicated membership of professionals, I look forward to working with my fellow board members and volunteer committees in our continued effort to building a stronger investment profession that better benefits society at large.”
The Society would also like to express our gratitude to our departing board members, Alain Bergeron, M.Sc, CFA, Dan C. Lavallee, CFA and Jennifer Schillaci, CFA.
Additionally, new appointments to the board include Marcus Turner, CFA, Vice Chair, Pamela Steer, FCPA, FCA, CFA, Past-Chair and Amy Stephenson, MBA, CPA, CMA. We would also like to welcome three new members to the Board of Directors.
Grace Cleary-Yu, CFA – Member Services
Grace Cleary-Yu is a Client Portfolio Manager for Guardian Capital Advisors LP (GCA). She Joined GCA in 2017 in this role and is focused on bringing GCA’s private wealth philosophy and process to her clients. In addition, she will lead the bilingual and bicultural private wealth platform for the growing Chinese investor needs.
Grace brings over ten years of institutional investment experience. Grace’s career in the financial services industry began in 20016, when she joined Halifax Regional Municipality Pension Plan, assisting both the CEO and CIO in various aspects of the plan’s investment and governance as an Investment Analyst. Directly prior to joining GCA, Grace was responsible for institutional consultant relations for PIMCO Canada, after spending several years in the areas of equity, fixed income and alternatives at Fidelity Canada in both product management and development capacities, meeting both institutional and individual investors’ needs.
Grace graduated from Tianjin University of Science and Technology with a Bachelors of Engineering degree. She is a CFA Charterholder and earned a Masters in Finance from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She is Fluent in Mandarin and English. Grace is also the Lead Volunteer for CFA Society Toronto’s Institutional Asset Management Committee.
Robert Cultraro, CFA – Board Member at Large
Robert is the Chief Investment and Pension Officer at Hydro One Inc. Robert’s expertise is in strategic decision-making, managing a team of investment professionals and managers, strategic and tactical asset mix management, the selection and monitoring of investments, governance and risk management. Robert has over twenty years of extensive experience in the investment industry, which includes working collaboratively with Boards, investment research and analysis, investment advising and managing investment portfolios.
Robert is a CFA Charterholder and holds various industry credentials including Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst and the Certified Investment Manager designations. Robert is professionally affiliated with CFA Institute, the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association, a Fellow of the Public Guardian and Trustee, a member of the Board of Directors for the Pension investment Association of Canada and is a member and Past Chair of its Investment Practice Committee. Additionally, Robert is a Senior Advisor to CFA Society Toronto’s Institutional Asset Management Committee,
Kathrin Forrest, CFA – Programming, Vice Chair
Kathrin Forrest is the Portfolio Manager for Sun Life Global Investments. Kathrin’s responsibilities include managing the firm’s investment solutions. Prior to joining Sun Life Global Investments, she was the Assistant Vice President, Product and Strategy at Sun Life Investment Management. In this role, she oversaw all aspects of the product development process across Sun Life Investment Management’s group of institutional investment management companies.
Kathrin’s previous experience includes her role as Assistance Vice President, Investment Consulting, helping to build out Sun Life’s International Investment Centre and overseeing consulting, product and asset allocation functions. Kathrin originally joined Sun Life in 2004 as an Investment Analyst within the firm’s Group Retirement Services division.
Kathrin is a CFA Charterholder and holds a Master of Arts in Economics.
Michael Thom, CFA – Board Member at Large
Michael is the Vice President at Lumen Asset Management Inc., a Toronto-based investment manager. Michael was a key member of the teams at Lumen’s predecessor family office, Obelysk Funds Ltd. Prior to Obelysk, Michael was head of trading and a senior member of the investment team at a boutique investment management firm in Vancouver, British Columbia. Michael is the immediate Past Chair of the Canadian Advocacy Council for CFA Institute, and is a past volunteer leader of a number of local and national professional associations.
Michael is a CFA Charterholder and has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of British Columbia, and holds a CAIA charter.
