The CFA Society Toronto Student Ambassador Program gives upper-year undergraduate and graduate students in Ontario a rare opportunity to connect directly with the world's largest network of CFA charterholders while building real leadership experience, a professional mentor relationship, and a head start on your finance career.

As a Student Ambassador, you'll be the go-to person at your school for all things CFA, bridging the gap between your peers and one of the most respected names in the investment management industry.

What Does a CFA Society Toronto Student Ambassador Do?

Your role as a Student Ambassador is flexible and collaborative. You'll work alongside fellow ambassadors at your school to organize responsibilities in a way that plays to everyone's strengths. Expect to invest around 5–10 hours per month across the 8-month term.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for students who are proactive, collaborative, and genuinely excited about the finance industry. Strong candidates typically demonstrate:

Communication skills: Comfortable speaking to groups, presenting information clearly, and representing an organization professionally
Leadership and initiative: Proactively seek out opportunities, lead conversations, and bring energy to everything they do
Relationship building: Natural networkers who enjoy connecting peers with resources and professionals
Teamwork: Ready to collaborate with co-ambassadors at your school to divide and conquer responsibilities
Organization: Able to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and stay on top of reporting requirements
Passion for the CFA Program: Curious about the CFA designation and motivated to share that excitement with others

Who Can Apply to the Student Ambassador Program?

The program is open to students at Ontario universities and colleges who are passionate about finance, the CFA designation, and connecting their peers with professional opportunities. Here's what you need to qualify:

Undergraduate students: Currently in your 3rd or 4th year, enrolled in a finance or business program at an Ontario university or college
Graduate students: Currently enrolled in a Master of Finance or business program at an Ontario institution

A current CFA Candidate
A previous participant in CFA Society Toronto or CFA Institute programs (Research Challenge, Ethics Challenge, Undergraduate Awards, etc.)

What You'll Gain as a CFA Society Toronto Student Ambassador

1 1-on-1 Mentorship with a CFA Charterholder

Every ambassador is paired with an experienced CFA charterholder volunteer from CFA Society Toronto. You'll meet at least once per semester for a dedicated, personalized session. Think resume feedback, CFA exam strategy, career path advice, and real talk about breaking into finance. Your mentor is in your corner for the full year.

2 Expert-Led Finance Webinar — Free

Ambassadors receive an exclusive invitation to a specialized webinar hosted by the Financial Modeling Institute (FMI), the organization behind the financial modeling content in the CFA exam. This is a professional development opportunity most students don't get access to until they're already working.

3 Networking with Finance Professionals

You'll have direct access to CFA Society Toronto's network of over 11,500 members including portfolio managers, analysts, CFOs, and more. Ambassadors can attend exclusive Society events and dedicated student sessions throughout the year, building connections that go well beyond the classroom.

4 Star Ambassador Award

The top-performing ambassador of the year will receive the Star Ambassador Award and prize, announced at an exclusive student mixer at the end of the academic year. It's the program's way of recognizing the ambassador who went above and beyond.

5 Public Recognition

Your name and contributions will be featured in the Spring issue of The Analyst, CFA Society Toronto's quarterly magazine, as well as on the Society's website and social media channels. You'll also be celebrated at our annual summer Volunteer Appreciation Event.

6 Certificate of Participation

Every ambassador receives an official certificate of participation from CFA Society Toronto upon completing the program — formal recognition of your leadership and commitment to the finance profession.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know my application was successfully submitted?

After hitting submit, the page will refresh and display a confirmation message. This can take a few minutes. If you don't see a confirmation or run into issues, email universityrelations@cfatoronto.ca before the August 1 deadline.
I don't know any faculty members. How do I find a faculty sponsor?

Think broader than just your professors. Program coordinators, academic advisors, and student services staff all count. If they need more context before signing, share the Faculty Sponsor Acknowledgement Form, the Role Description, and the Applicant Guide with them.
Can I apply again if I was already a Student Ambassador?

Absolutely — and we encourage it. Returning ambassadors who still meet the eligibility criteria are welcomed back, and prior experience is genuinely valued in the selection process.
When will I find out if I've been accepted?

All selected ambassadors will be contacted at the beginning of September. No need to follow up. If you've been accepted, you'll hear from CFA Society Toronto directly.
What if my school doesn't have a finance club?

List any relevant student organizations or clubs that could benefit from CFA Society Toronto's programs, even if they're not exclusively finance focused. If you're unsure, reach out to universityrelations@cfatoronto.ca before applying.

Submit your application online by August 1st. The University Relations committee reviews all submissions. Strong applicants will be invited to interview.

Selection and notification
Successful candidates are notified at the start of September and onboarded shortly after.
