Guidance, encouragement, and connection for CFA Program candidates
The CFA Program can be rigorous, demanding, and at times isolating. CFA Society Toronto’s Candidate Mentor Program is designed to help you navigate that journey with practical support from someone who understands the realities of balancing exams, career development, and professional growth.
As an exclusive benefit for Associate Members, the Candidate Mentor Program connects current CFA Program candidates with mentors who can provide guidance, encouragement, perspective, and a stronger connection to CFA Society Toronto’s professional community. The program is designed as a shorter-term, practical mentorship experience that gives candidates structured support without creating an overly heavy time commitment.
The Candidate Mentor Program is meant to be developmental and supportive. It is designed to provide guidance, perspective, accountability, encouragement, and professional connection.
It is not an exam prep service, a guarantee of exam success, a job placement or referral service, a substitute for academic, career, or mental health counselling.
A strong mentor can help make the CFA journey feel more manageable, more focused, and less solitary.
Through this program, you can gain:
- Practical guidance from someone who understands the CFA journey and early-career realities
- Real-world advice in balancing study, work, and personal responsibilities
- Encouragement, accountability, and perspective when motivation or confidence feels tested
- Insight into professional pathways, networking, and building your place in the industry
- Stronger connection to CFA Society Toronto and the broader CFA charterholder and professional community
This program is intended for Associate Member CFA Candidates who are looking for structured guidance, encouragement, and connection to the profession as part of their CFA journey. It is part of CFA Society Toronto’s broader effort to support CFA candidate success and help them transition into active participation in the Society’s community.
The Candidate Mentor Program operates in two cycles each year:
- Fall/Winter Cycle: September to December
- Winter/Spring Cycle: January to April
Each mentorship cycle runs for about four months. Mentor-protégé pairs are expected to meet approximately once per month, for a minimum of four meetings during the cycle. Meetings may take place virtually or in person, depending on preferences and availability.
To help make the experience practical and manageable, the program is designed as a flexible mentorship model. Discussion topics may include:
- Navigating the CFA journey
- Study habits and time management
- Staying motivated and resilient
- Balancing work and study
- Building confidence and professional identity
- Understanding early-career pathways
- How to use Society membership and networks effectively
To apply as a protégé, you must:
- Be a current CFA Program candidate
- Be an Associate Member of CFA Society Toronto in good standing
- Complete the application by the deadline
- Commit to participating in the full four-month cycle
- Agree to the program expectations and code of conduct
Because the program is capacity-limited and matching is based on fit, acceptance is not guaranteed. Applications are reviewed carefully by the Candidate Mentor Program Committee to help ensure strong mentoring relationships and the best possible participant experience.
