THERE’S BEEN A LOT TO CELEBRATE AT CFA SOCIETY TORONTO LATELY…

THERE’S BEEN A LOT TO CELEBRATE AT CFA SOCIETY TORONTO LATELY, and our membership has much to be proud of. Thankfully, as we’ve returned to in-person events, we’ve enjoyed much of that festivity face-to-face.

Several of recent in-person events have focused on welcoming new members to our local investment community. Our New Member Welcome Reception was hosted for those who have joined the Society over the past two years. The event featured speakers Brian Madden, CFA, Board Member, Chair, External Relations, and Stephanie Poon, CFA, Vice Chair, Awards, and University Relations Committee. Attendees were able to network and learn about member benefits, volunteer opportunities, and ways to get more involved with the Society.

Between May 2021 and March 2022, we officially saw over 900 members join CFA Society Toronto, growing our membership to over 11,000, officially making CFA Society Toronto the largest Society in the world, among over 160 markets!

On June 1, I was honoured to join fellow board members, volunteers, staff, and recent CFA Program graduates alongside Omar Khafagy, CFA, Manager, Corporate Access at Toronto Stock Exchange, to celebrate our membership milestone. CFA Society Toronto has seen significant growth in our membership by over 15 percent in the past five years. Notably, 98 percent of CFA Society Toronto members are CFA charterholders, showcasing our membership’s dedication to the rigour of the examination and the high ethical standards synonymous with the CFA charter.

On June 24, we recognized 1,036 new charterholders from the classes of 2020 and 2021 at a sold-out gala dinner at The Carlu, celebrating the achievement of new CFA charterholders and their guests. Attendees enjoyed a rousing address by keynote speaker Karl Cheong, CFA, Board Member and Chair, Member Services, and an exceptional performance by composer and electric harpist M’Michèle

Our mid-year mentorship mixer marked the Mentorship Program’s first in-person event of 2022. At the new TMX Market Centre, current mentors and protégés got together to mingle and connect with each other and members of our Mentorship Committee.

In addition to returning to in-person events, we are happy to announce that our staff has returned to the office in a hybrid work model. We are so glad to welcome members and visitors back into our office, as long as appointments are made in advance.

We look forward to seeing more of you in the coming months and wish you a fantastic fall season ahead.
