As 2010 comes to a close, we are continuing to carry out on our promises to Educate, Engage and Evaluate. Some highlights of events from this quarter included our annual Forecast Dinner where Patti Croft predicted our loonie would soar to higher highs against the U.S. dollar. Shortly after her prediction, we flirted with parity. October also saw Paul Volcker speak about regulation and its impact on the global financial system. Also timely was the session on bank capital requirements soon after the adoption of Basel III requirements. In our continued commitment to make our programs more accessible, we have offered a number of our programs via webcast, including the sold out Mining for Investments Professionals conference in November where five societies from around North America participated remotely.
In terms of engagement, our job postings have increased this quarter–reaching levels not seen since our 2007-2008 fiscal year. We are striving harder than ever to help our members reach their career aspirations. You’ll be able to participate in this year’s Professional Development Day, themed The Three C’s of Career Management: Capabilities, Culture and Connecting on Wednesday, 19 January 2011. You will learn how to progress within your existing organization as well as how to think about your career strategically. We have also made strides to work with peer organizations such as AIMA, GARP, PRMIA and the Toronto Financial Services Alliance (TFSA) with a kick-off networking event hosted at the TMX in early October.
On the advocacy front, the Canadian Advocacy Council is reviewing the proposed rules governing rating agencies, NI25-101. Please check out their website at www.cfaadvocacy.ca to find out more about what the CAC is doing on your behalf to improve the efficiency and fairness of Canada’s capital markets.
In terms of evaluation, we have made the feedback process a little easier for members and non-members to participate in surveys without having to login to our website. We encourage more of you to give us your comments so that we can provide you with even better programming and services in the future.
