Message from the CEO

As we close out our fiscal year this June, we review our successes and accomplishments and look to the future as we finalize our new Three-Year Strategic Plan.

Refining our programming: Quality over quantity

As the largest CFA Society globally, our membership reflects a wide array of demographics, cohorts, and industries. However, what is clear across all member segments is a desire to gain insights on topics of critical importance from industry-leading practitioners. In response to your feedback, we are optimizing our programming. We are scaling back the volume but increasing the quality and impact of our events on both secular themes and topical issues. Last fall, our Annual Investment Dinner featured renowned University of Toronto Professor Ajay Agrawal, who shared his insights on how generative artificial intelligence will make us more productive and introduce systemic changes to our jobs and lives. This spring, the Bank of Canada’s Deputy Governor Toni Gravelle spoke about the bank’s plans to normalize its balance sheet as we head into a new-normal macroeconomic environment. Additionally, our targeted half-day events, such as our Women in Finance Conference, the Sustainability Symposium, and the Private Markets Conference, have all show-cased topics of keen interest to our membership.

Building our community through connections

Our members have also requested greater opportunities for dialogue and networking at our gatherings. Each event now includes dedicated time for these interactions, which have received resoundingly positive feedback from attendees. Throughout the year, we also held new member receptions, volunteer recognition events, and last month’s annual CFA Charter Recognition, where we congratulated and welcomed nearly 650 new members into our community. These events are especially important to our Board of Directors and to me, as we see firsthand the potential and vibrancy of our Society and its broader, industry-wide impact.

Looking ahead to the next three years

Despite the secular challenges facing our industry and Canada’s position in the global economy, I am optimistic about CFA Society Toronto’s future. We are at a critical juncture to enhance and expand our community to embrace new sectors and roles and welcome new members who share our passion. Rest assured, as we look to expand our impact and influence, we will continue our relentless focus on member experience. We plan to keep improving our communication with you, particularly through our digital channels, ensuring we remain closely connected to your needs and preferences.

I look forward to sharing more details about our new strategic plan soon. I wish you all a wonderful summer and look forward to connecting in the coming months.
