The Mentorship Program is aimed at tapping into the knowledge of more-experienced charterholders and encouraging more members to become involved with the society.

It was recognized that a large and growing proportion of Toronto CFA Society’s membership consists of relatively new charterholders who would benefit from this type of program. In addition to being assigned a mentor, selected protégés would be invited to events organized by the society involving career development and networking.

What are the benefits to being a mentor?

Mentoring is consistently cited as one of the most satisfying work activities for older, experienced professionals. In addition, the ability to coach another individual is considered a valuable career skill in management. Mentors will be invited to attend a workshop on  “Being a Good Mentor.”

What are the benefits to being a protégé?

The program provides an opportunity to learn from the wisdom  of a more-seasoned professional as well as the chance to attend events and workshops geared toward career development.  Protégés are also given training on “Managing their Mentor Year” to aid them in getting the most out of their mentorship year.

Arrangements

The Mentorship Program will last one calendar year. During the year, it is expected that the mentor and protégé meet face-to-face six to eight times. In addition, Toronto CFA Society will host a number of events in connection with The Mentorship Program. These events could include career development and networking events, workshops, and small group meetings with seasoned executives from various backgrounds. Protégés and Mentors will be encouraged to attend  an information session at the beginning of the year.

Who can apply to become a mentor or protégé?

Candidates applying to become a mentor or protégé must be  conscientious and willing to make a commitment to the program and to accept the challenges and responsibilities that accompany the opportunity. Protégés must be members of Toronto CFA Society and cannot be full-time undergraduate students.
