In December 2008, Peter Jarvis, CFA, former chief investment officer & executive vice president, Investments at BIMCOR, joined Toronto CFA Society as executive director.
With 30 years of experience in the financial industry, Mr. Jarvis has had a wealth of success at building highly functional and collegial teams and at OMERS, one of the largest pension management firms in Canada, served as vice president of Fixed Income & Derivatives, Fixed Income and Alternative Strategies and then Strategic Research & Investment Risk Management.
“With a great foundation already in place, we plan to enhance programs with the goal to raise the strong professional standards of our members and further reinforce the CFA brand as the leading designation of financial and investing professionals,” said Peter. “We plan to help members transition though the current economic crisis with more progressive and specialized continuing education programs that target CFA members post exam, and connect with members on a life-long basis at all levels of seniority and expertise. Finally we intend to communicate the importance to employers of the benefits of having a CFA charterholder on the team.”
Other focal points for the society under Mr. Jarvis’ leadership include deepening its network with professional associations and regulators who share common interests with the membership.
Mr. Jarvis has played an active role with Toronto CFA Society since 1993. He has held positions including committee chairman, director, and president of the society. With respect to CFA Institute, he has held roles such as chairman of the CFA Institute Annual Conference Program Committee.
