On May 31, 2024, CFA Society Toronto hosted its annual Charter Recognition event at The Carlu in Toronto to celebrate the Class of 2023, its newest CFA charterholders. The event was attended by over 425 guests, including new CFA charterholders, their friends, and their families.

The evening’s keynote speaker was Brian Madden, CFA, CFP, CIM, Chair of CFA Society Toronto’s Board of Directors, and CIO of First Avenue Investment Counsel. Brian delivered an inspiring speech, reflecting on his own journey to earning the CFA charter and the significant impact it has had on his career. He commended the graduates for their perseverance, particularly given the unique challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brian highlighted the rigorous journey the new charterholders undertook. He emphasized their extraordinary achievement of passing all three levels of the CFA exams during the chaotic and fluctuating disruptions caused by the pandemic. He acknowledged the shared sacrifices and the collective sense of accomplishment that unites all CFA charterholders, regardless of when they earned their designation.

“Leadership is the ability and propensity to be of service,” Brian said during his address. “You are all extremely capable, talented, and highly sought-after financial professionals. You have proven your mettle and that your ‘hard skills’ can go toe-to-toe with the best of them … The CFA charter can take you in any direction you choose. This industry, this city, and this country are ripe with leadership opportunities, and there is no one better equipped to get after it than those of us gathered in this room tonight.”

The evening was filled with camaraderie and celebration, as the new charterholders were encouraged to connect with each other, fostering a sense of community and support.

CFA Society Toronto is proud to welcome the Class of 2023 into its community and celebrates their dedication and hard work in achieving this milestone. The event also featured a networking reception and a dinner, where guests had the opportunity to share their experiences and aspirations.
