AS WE WRAP UP THIS VOLUNTEER YEAR and embark on the next one, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the contributions of over 300 CFA Society Toronto volunteers. Thanks to their hard work and ability to juggle professional, personal, and volunteer commitments during a global pandemic, we have continued to serve our membership and maintain our sense of community (albeit from a distance) through engaging virtual content.

This year we launched a Veterans’ Scholarship Program to recognize the sacrifices and dedication to service of the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), and to support the transition of CAF personnel into a civilian career in the field of finance. With our common values of dedication, integrity, and pride in our profession, we are thrilled to help CAF veterans begin their paths in the investment industry.

The Annual Spring Pension Conference, held virtually on April 15, 2021, was based on the theme of “Building Back Better: Opportunities and Risks Post Covid” and provided participants with forward-thinking perspectives in the safety of their homes and offices. 

Our Mentorship Committee moved their “Day in the Life of” Speaker Series online to provide interactive Q&A and networking sessions featuring local charterholders who shared their insights on a wide range of industry-related careers. These sessions continue to provide an invaluable, efficient tool for both those new to the industry and those seeking to make changes or explore other options in their career paths. The Mentorship Committee also launched two exciting new initiatives:

Knowledge Network Directory: an online directory that connects time-strapped members with subject-matter experts to share experiences, career guidance, and more
Ask Us Anything: a series in which members of the Mentorship Committee address frequently asked questions from members

Looking forward, we recognize an increased need for flexibility in learning. Through our On Demand Resources, CFA Society Toronto strives to provide convenient access to professional development offerings that fit into your busy calendars. Our growing library of On Demand Resources allows members to learn on their own schedule. Check in regularly as we continue to expand our On Demand Resources this coming year.
